Substitute Teacher Instructions

As a new substitute teacher you will be an integral part of the Memphis Schools educational success. We look forward to working collaboratively to support and represent the district's Mission and Goals. Your commitment is critical to our continued success. We are pleased to have you as part of our team.

Now that you have been accepted as a substitute teacher, the following will be required of you in order to begin accepting assignments at Memphis Community Schools.

  • Contact Laura Heilig at the Memphis Administration Office at 810-535-8227, or lheilig@memphisk12.org, to set up an appointment to pick up required forms for background check process. This must be done prior to appointment at RESA.

  • You will need to set up an appointment to have your criminal history (fingerprinting) done. You will call the St. Clair County RESA (located in Marysville, at 499 Range Rd.) at 810-364-8990 and request the legal department or human resources. They are open Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please tell them that you are becoming a substitute teacher.

  • You will be required to have a driver's license & will also be required to pay a $55.00 fee to have your background check done. This is a mandatory part of employment in a school district, so please be prepared to pay at the time of your fingerprinting. The results will be sent to human resources at Memphis Community Schools.
