Message From the Superintendent
Thank you for considering Memphis Community School District as your partner in education. It is my absolute honor and pleasure to serve as Superintendent for Memphis Community Schools. Memphis is a community school district where the spirit of a well-rounded community thrives. Our school community focuses on: providing innovative educational opportunities, creating a caring support network for students and staff, and employing dedicated professional staff who all work together to create the very best environment for your child to learn and grow. Indeed, Memphis Community Schools is a small school district where BIG things happen!
Points of Extreme Pride
Memphis Elementary School is a proud RESA Lab School. Being a Lab School means that MES partners with RESA ELA consultants in order to provide the very best innovative instructional practices in all areas of ELA, with a strong emphasis on writing. Additionally, Memphis Elementary School offers a daily structured WIN Time block into our daily schedule. WIN stands for 'What I Need.' During this time, students work with a staff member on content standards that they may need extra help with or students could be working on enrichment activities that challenge students to perform at a higher level. Each "round" of WIN Time will last for about 6 weeks. Upon the completion of the 6 week cycle, staff assesses the effectiveness of the implemented interventions/enrichments. All assessment data is then analyzed so that a plan for the next 6 weeks of WIN Time can be prescribed. The purpose of this time is to help ALL students meet grade level expectations and to push those who already are to an even higher level. Memphis Elementary also employs 2 instructional coaches to facilitate best instructional practices across the board. MES is also very proud to offer both GSRP and tuition based preschool. In addition to those two pre-k options, MES offers one of the area's only Developmental Kindergarten. As a service to the community, MES also houses Memphis Adventures Daycare, which is a full-service day care facility that offers child care services to children as young as 6 weeks old. To create a well-rounded experience for all Memphis Elementary students, MES also offers our students access to: Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom, Memphis youth sports, 5th grade overnight camp, an after school running club, active scouting groups, a drama club, robotics club, 5th grade band, and participation in an annual school sponsored 5K race. MES has a very active parent club that organizes multiple extra-curricular events such as: Winter carnival, Harvest Hustle, Santa Shop, Assemblies, and Field Day.Memphis Jr/Sr High School offers its students the opportunity to participate in Dual Enrollment, Blue Water Middle College, and multiple CTE programming opportunities via an active partnership with St. Clair County TEC. Unique to Memphis Community Schools, Memphis Jr/Sr High School employs a full-time college advisor to assist students with their post high school plans. MCS also employs a full-time School Resource Officer. All students have access to participate in highly engaging STEM initiatives via two high performing robotics teams. All students have access to a daily STING time scheduling block (STING is similar to WIN time explained above.) Weekly tutoring is offered to students upon request. To foster our students' social emotional growth, Memphis Jr/Sr High School is a PBIS school with multiple recognitions for positive school behavior. NJHS, NHS, drama club with productions, student government, mock trial, school store business acumen and multiple athletic extracurricular opportunities are also available to all students. Additionally, Memphis Community Schools is incredibly proud of the outstanding musical programming opportunities (award winning band and choir programs) that are available to all students.
